Liberon Pure Tung Oil  500ml

Pure tung oil (Chinese wood oil) is a natural & non toxic oil that provides a hard wearing surface, suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food, it is also highly resistant to water, alcohol and food acids. Tung Oil is a great product to use on Kitchen wooden worktops and for chopping boards where there is frequent contact with water.
Tung oil is easy to apply with either a brush or cloth, although personally I find it easier to use a cloth. Whilst you can use Tung oil straight out of the tin, for better results dilute the first & second coat with 50% white spirt, this allows the oil to penetrate deeper into the wood to give you better long term protection, leave the oil to soak in for about 30 minutes, then wipe away any excess with a cloth, leave it to dry for 24 hours, then gently rub over the surface over with some fine wire wool (0000 grade) then apply another coat of diluted oil, allow to dry - rub down and repeat as before, it is recommended to apply 4 coats in total. If you left it a bit too long before you wiped away any excess oil and its a little sticky, no problem just wipe it over with a cloth and some white spirt. I first used this Tung oil on our beech kitchen worktop over 15 years ago, although Liberon recommend on the tin that you recoat the wood once or twice a year, but personally I have not, I only recoat the work surface about every couple of years, then it was a simple rub down with wire wool - wipe down with a slightly damp cloth and apply couple of coats of oil and the kitchen work surface looks just as good today.
