An evergreen, small tree growing to 15 metres (45ft) in SE Queensland, north coast, north-western slopes and north-west plains of New South Wales.
A plant of the drier rainforest growing on sandy soils in a sunny, protected position; the leaves are narrow-elliptic 6cm long, glossy green on the upper surface and dull, greyish on the under surface (discolorus); the flowers are green to creamy-fawn, male flowers in clusters of three and female flowers solitary; the fruit is approx 15mm in diameter, orange-brown and ripe March to October (southern hemisphere).
One site reports that the fruit tastes terrible but the seeds, chewed, are a sure cure for toothache.
