Up for sale is a Mac Powerbook 3400c, which when released in 1997 was the fastest laptop in existence in terms of raw performance - beating Intel at their game!  This 3400c is the top of the range model, with a 603e 240Mhz CPU - running OS 8.6 it is still a capable machine with a fantastic display, amazing sound (four speakers - best and loudest sound I've ever heard coming from a laptop!) and PCMCIA expansion capability. It also has a repacked battery which still gives ~ 1.5 hours of use (tested with full brightness and CPU power)!

As with all my vintage Macs sold, this has been cleaned and tested and bar some niggles (see below!) is in good working condition.  It is running Mac OS 8.6 which I have tweaked for best performance, and includes various essential apps, utilities and games (see Marathon Infinity pic!).

The sale comprises:

  • 12GB IBM hard disk
  • 12X CD-ROM drive, 1.44MB floppy drive (both removable)
  • Original power brick + power cable
  • Mac compatible 56K PCMCIA card modem
  • Repacked NiMH battery - approx 1.5 hours (maybe more if cycled)
  • Very high quality "Diplomat" carry bag included
  • Niggle #1: when not used for a while, the laptop starts up with a loud screeching coming from the speakers.  Once the computer has started up and rebooted, the sound is 100% perfect again.  If used regularly this does not occur.  Possibly due to dead PRAM/clock battery
  • Niggle #2: As the pictures note, there has been some plastic damage to the top lid of the laptop which has been painted over.  In no way affects use of machine, but is obvious
