MARGARET PRESTON. 1927 LITHO OF A 1925 RARE WOODBLOCK.

On offer is an original 1927 commercially produced miniature lithograph of a 1925 woodblock on paper titled ' Protea ' by Margaret Preston (1875 - 1963).  A superb and exceptional image.

This lithograph was produced with Margaret Preston's knowledge by highly skilled craftsman of the day and printed by master printers Arhur McQuitty of Sydney chosen for their excellence. Today this craftmanship is virtually a lost craft being replaced by modern printing methods. Authenticity detailing the origins of this work accompanies the sale.  This lithograph was produced on the title paper page with letterpess lettering at the front and reverse as issued, confirming authenticity, for a rare 1927 issue of Art in Australia devoted entiriely to ' The Art of Margaret Preston. This publication due to the ravages of time like fires, floods or discarded as waste etc, etc is extremely scarce. 

This is one of only two miniature lithographs contained in this publication derived from larger still life woodblocks. I am also offering the second one in my listings, they make a great pair and I do combine postage. 

Lithograph is signed M.P ( P in reverse ) lower right within the plate as issued and image measures approx 3.8 cms  high x  3.8 cms wide with outer page larger. Lithograph  will be supplied in a new frame using archival materials with a cream mount and framed in a quality thin black timber frame as shown. 

Lithograph is in lovely original condition. Paper used for this lithograph is a lovely old thick quality paper. This lithograph I offer is the next best thing to owning the woodcut if you could find one and if you did may well cost up to $15,000.
