Easily the best Disney flick and probably the finest "children's" movie every made. (Although any age can enjoy it.) The songs and dancing are performed by first rate artists in their prime. And what songs, there isn't a dud among them which helps keep pacing, always a problem with musicals, at a good clip. As usual Disney brings in veteran supporting actors who throughout create fine characterizations, not just filling requisite spots. The children are perfection, replacing the treacly adorable quotient with sincerity. I don't know how Julie Andrews, a fine serious actress both on stage and musical, would feel about it, but she was born to play this role. In an era where children are more and more left to themselves the idea of being a parent and friend and present is more important than ever. "Let's go fly a kite"!
