                    AN ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL ART DECO TELEPHONE. CIRCA 1920

I have never seen a more Art Deco subscribers telephone. Molded Bakelite made possible unique and complicated designs not before practical in production. It is an extremely hard and durable material. Bakelite can not be produced in light colors. The only method was to paint the item. Colored telephones were only available to movie stars, major hotels and important people in the early days.

Dials were not in general use at the time this telephone was introduced. When the handset was removed a lamp would illuminate at an operators switchboard. She would plug in and say"number please" and connect you to your party. Installing a dial would ruin the appearance and disturb the Deco lines. There are tone dialers available to connect with this telephone. I can supply them.
