These are a set of full sized GHB's made by Blue MacMurchie for me. They are made from Western Australian Myall hardwood. These pipes have the same characteristics of a set of ABW pipes, although the Myall has a bit more of a ring to it. The bores are classic Henderson bores. The ferrules and ring caps are brass, and the mounts are Western Australian sandalwood. More pictures are here: http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa11/dunsomepiping/MacMurchies/?action=view¤t=macmurchies-myallpipes.jpg These pipes lock in well, strike in easily, and have a great big umbrella of sound.
I am selling these with a canmore synthetic grommeted bag (no zipper), bag cover, and matching cords. These are a fantastic sounding pipe, and I am only selling because I have two other sets, and these are just not being played much. The bag, cover and cords are worth at least $100 second hand, and the chanter is a fantastic Myall chanter by Blue - worth at least $250. That makes the start point $450 for the sticks and stocks - this is a fantastic opportunity to own a very good set of pipes for not a lot of money. I've been asked by a few folk about western Myall. It is a very dense, stable wood that turns well. It is a bit like Gidgee, which makes nice flutes: http://www.mcgee-flutes.com/materials.htm
Here are some links that speak to the timber - it is a very slow growing, dense, desert hardwood. The tree from which the wood was harvested for these pipes was 600 to 1000 years old. The wood seasoned for about 15 years before being sent to Scotland to be turned into pipes by one of the world's leading pipe makers. http://www.australian-aridlands-botanic-garden.org/general/plants/p_spec/wemy.htm

I chose this wood for it's stability, and tonal qualities - You will not be disappointed with the tone of this instrument, it's playability, or its ability to lock in and stay tuned.
Now the bas news - the blowpipe stock has cracked, and been repaired, and sleeved with plastic. Other than that, these pipes are in good (used) condition. I will supply a piece of matching myall should the new owner want to have a replacement stock made up.
Bid with confidence - these pipes are professionally turned pipes, made in Scotland by one of the world's leading pipe makers. They are my pipes, and I am happy to answer any questions you may have about them. On 15-Nov-09 at 09:34:15 AEDST, seller added the following information: I've been asked if they have reeds with them. I will throw in a set of balance tone reeds for free if they sell for more than $Aus900. |
