This is the nude male form at it’s best, shaped by hand from Tropical Oak.

I have been looking for nearly 3 years, for a sculptor who could produce the male body and capture its beauty, while still keeping the work tasteful and anatomically correct.  Its been harder than you might imagine.

After interviewing and working with about 20 sculptors in total, I finally discovered the artist in 2007 and this is the last of eight works he has produced for me.

This piece is created with the classic Greek male body in mind.  The body is strong and muscular, yet has a leanness to it.  The nipples, diaphragm and pubic hair are strongly detailed while the muscular anatomy is clear and correct.  All of this is achieved with a beauty that only a master carver can supply.

This hardwood has a rich straight grain, a rather coarse texture and dramatic colour range. Rain Tree is a native of South America, but has been dispersed throughout the tropics for at least 100 years. Because the trunk is huge in mature trees, Rain Tree is suitable for creating very large statues. A fast-growing and easily replaceable wood, it is the favoured wood of importers outside of the tropics because it’s beautiful crisscrossed, interlocking grain keeps the wood from cracking when moved to drier climates. It can be finished to a fairly high gloss
