ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Born in 1956, I grew up in Grafton and had several one-man exhibitions while still at school. After a brief period of study at the Royal Art Society of NSW in Sydney, I returned to the area where I have continued working as a full-time artist.

I have held 26 one-man exhibitions including showings in various Brisbane venues, Ulmarra Galleries, Seelands Studio Gallery and the Grafton Regional Gallery, plus shared Exhibitions in Sydney and other regional centres. I have also worked as a cartoonist and caricaturist and have also written and illustrated 5 books of my own, as well as illustrating for other authors.

I work in various mediums including oils, watercolours, gouache, charcoal, pastel, pencil, pen and ink. Much of my work originates from my passion in the natural world, in which the works are varied in approach and ideas. I also have a keen interest in people and portraiture. I believe the most important things each of us own are our ideas, and as an artist it is a waste not to pursue each to the fullest.

ABOUT THE WORK:

This is an example of my finely detailed wildlife studies. Maned Wood Ducks are a well-known bird of eastern Australia, and are foten found on farms and parks as well as more remote locations wherever green feed is available. As in most of my wildlife studies the details are gained from hours of study of the subject both in the wild and as a specimen. Painting such as this often take up to 100 hours to complete.

The dimensions of this painting including the frame and a glass front are 75cm (h) x 90cm (w).
