Leptospermum scoparium

This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.

A native of Queensland, New south Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and New Zealand where it prefers light to medium soils in an open sunny position. It is drought and frost resistant.

An evergreen shrub growing to 3m (10ft) with a spread of 2m (6ft). the stem is stiff and branching; the mid green leaves are sessile (leaf attached to branch directly - no leaf stalk), small, pointed, orb-shaped with recurved tips (curved backwards); the flowers are five petalled, 1.5cm across, open and white often tinged with pink.

The honey produced from the nectar of the Manuka has special healing qualities and has been used in hospitals for particularly difficult wounds - it also tastes good.

Offered is a packet of 150 seeds with grow notes to assist you to successfully cultivate this popular shrub.

I created Ole Lantana's Seed Store after I retired for health reasons. Previously I had owned and operated a successful wholesale nursery in South East Queensland despite the continuing drought. My interest in plants goes back a long way to when I used to weed my grandfather's strawberry patch, I loved it - he didn't much care for it. Eventually, I went to the University of Queensland and completed formal horticultural studies and my nursery career was launched. Ole Lantana's Seed Store provides a continuing interest in Horticulture in my retirement.
