McGILVRAY THE GAME IS NOT THE SAME Norman Tasker PB

As Australia's premier cricket broadcaster, Alan McGilvray is best known for his authoritative commentaries on ABC Radio over fifty years.

McGilvray was also a player. He played cricket at school- the Sydney Grammar School - where the late, great MA Noble noticed him and called the attention of the school coach to his potential bowling skills. He went on to play for and captain New South Wales before he embarked on a career in radio.

McGilvray lives in a Sydney harbour-side suburb and is very much a family man. He has two childreu, Ross, a grazier in north-western New South Wales, who has played polo for Australia, aud a daughter, Carolyn (Mrs Blair), his research officer for the past few years.

McGilvray has been much honoured for his participatiou in Australia's sporting life. In 1974

he was awarded the MBE, in 1980 he received the AM and in 1985 he received the Advance Australia award for his outstanding contributions to sport!! broadcasting.

He has beeu a keeu golfer and fisherman

for many years and keeps fit by swimming every morning.

NORMAN TASKER, Sports Editor of the Sydney newspaper The Sun, is a well-known Australian journalist. He was The Sun's Cricket and Rugby correspondent for fifteen years until 1982 and toured many times with Australian sporting teams including tours to England and New Zealand with Australian cricket sides.
