Brilliant Orange Beehive Vase up for Auction
Mid-Century Artist signature on bottom Dave Aiyn (or Auyn) Believe to be American Potter Great Condition, and measures 4 1/4" high and 5 1/2" wide. It looks to have been fired Raqu Style first to give it the burnt and black color and then fired again possible in a regular kiln so the brilliant glaze adhered. You can see the blackness spotted lightly through and around the bottom where there is a bit more. There are faint rings that texture the clay when the walls where pulled up with the look of a beehive. The top of the vase closes abruptly like a beehive and a wonderful gray rough matted Raqu-Bare clay for the opening. (Very thin white line around that!) The inside is porous dry raqu fire, no glaze and the outside semi-glossy burnt colored orange glaze. Simple, yet dramatic looking vase with color that would punch up your room. Questions, email me. |
