Aeroplanes

6 Books On One CD

Book 1: The Aeroplane In War by Claude Graham-White and Harry Harper written in 1912, with 270 pages. In peace manoeuvres in France and Germany, and under actual war conditions in Tripoli, scouting machines have proved their ability to pierce most effectually what is known as "the fog of war." Airscouts have, indeed, revealed the dispositions of an
enemy so precisely as to make it necessary to alter at a moment's notice an entire plan of campaign.

Book 2: Learning To Fly In The US Army by E.N. Fales written in 1917, with 189 pages. "The contents of this book run parallel to the instruction given under the author's direction in the U. S. Ground School of Military Aeronautics, University of Illinois branch. In it are set forth the main principles of flying, such as the aviator must know in order to properly understand his airplane, keep it trued up, and operate it in cross country flights as well as at the flying field.

Book 3: Military Aeroplanes by Grover C Loening written in 1917, with 183 pages. An explanatory consideration of their characteristics, perfomances, construction, maintenance and operation, for the use of aviators. The object of this book, in assisting military aviators to acquire a more intimate knowledge of their machines, appears to be attained, in that at the military and naval aviation schools of several nations it has been adopted.

Book 4: The Curtiss Aviation Book by Glenn H Curtiss written in 1912, with 350 pages.  "The time lias come when the world is going to need a new type of men almost a new race. These are the Flying Men. The great dream of centuries has come true, and man now has the key to the sky. Every great invention which affects the habits and customs of a people brings about changes in the people themselves. How great, then, must be the changes to be brought about by the flying machine, and how strangely new the type of man that it carries up into a new world, under absolutely new conditions!"

Book 5: The 12 Cylinder Liberty Aero Engine for use of members of the Royal Airforce written in 1918, with 160 pages.  "The Liberty engine is of the ungeared twelve cylinder Vee type, with cylinders set at 45°. The bore is 5 in. (127 mm.), and the stroke 7 in. (177.8 mm.). The "dry" weight is 820 lbs. The engine is constructed in two models, the army type having a higher compression ratio than the naval type; the maximum r.p.m. of both types are 1750, at which speed 425 b.h.p. is developed by the army type, its normal b.h.p. being 405 at 1650 r.p.m. The naval type is not used in the British Service at present: it gives 396 h.p. at 1,650 r.p.m."

Book 6: Instructional Notes On The Vickers Gun 45 pages.  The following sub-heads and notes should be read in conjunction with the official copy of the "Handbook for the - 303 Vickers Machine Gun".
