There are common failures in Minelab P.I Metal detectors that can be repaired by anyone that has some competence with a soldering iron and can follow detailed pictorial instructions.  The most common problem by far is the N Channel input switching Fets failing, this in most cases takes out the driver transistor that controls the gate on the Fets. The P channel Switching devices can also fail and it is a good idea to replace these as well. I have repaired many SD GP and GPX series detectors to know what fails and what does not. The components used in the Minelab detector are specialized components, I could just about guarrantee that no electronics repair shop would have these parts in stock.

Just imagine that you are out in the outback and your metal detector dies on you, what are you going to do? Even if you do not feel confident working on a Minelab detector you could find the local electronic repair shop and give them the components and instructions to get you up and running again. You are just not buying the parts from me, you are getting detailed instructions culminating from near 5 years reseach on Minelab electronics in these metal detectors. Minelab as you may or may not be aware grind the component part numbers off in the detectors, they then coat the boards in White paint to stop prying eyes and also seal the boards from moisture. Without detailed instructions you can not even locate the parts and if you did you would not know what they are..but I do!  Please note that the picture is of a GPX circuit board, this is to indicate what you will be working on to remove components and reinstall new supplied parts.

PS,    If you are not competent with a Soldering Iron get someone else to do the repairs.

A: Hi Paul, I could possibly repair it for you. The kit is only parts that commonly blow up.
