~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Ministrel in France ~~~~~~~~~~~ by Harry Lauder. published 1918 by Hearst's International Library. 338 pages. pretty sure this is first edition, But i could be wrong. about Lauder's son Captain John Lauder --who was a member of of the first 8th, Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders, died at Poziers, France in 1916. the father travels to france to find some sort of closure. also finding the reality of battle. Looks like a very interesting read. Sir Harry Lauder (1870-1950) was a popular vaudeville entertainer who traveled the globe. Winston Churchill referred to him as "Scotland's greatest ever ambassador." At one time, he was the highest paid entertainer in the world. He often toured music halls to recruit new soldiers. (wikipedia.org) condition? pretty good. cover lightly bumped at edges. very very light wear to the usual places. inscription on first free page... ethel plymire from Victoria. christmas 1918. A few pages have isolated "blobs" of foxing. Title page, first few pages and one or two others have heavier. Foxing visible on page ends when book is closed. Overall a pretty good copy.
