Mirror Sailing Dinghy

An excellent example of the Classic family sailing dinghy complete with a quality road trailer.

We bought this boat two years ago to further our children's interest in sailing, it worked! The two oldest are racing skiffs and the youngest is not far behind. They have all moved on from the Mirror and it has to go to make room for higher performance craft.

If you know sailing boats these need no introduction. New to sailing? Mirrors have been best family starter boat since they were introduced in the 1960's.

It is stable with built in buoyancy tanks to ensure safety even when completely flooded. It is very forgiving but still plenty of fun as you can see from the photo of our 10 year old and I on Lake Macquarie on a very windy day last Christmas.

Roomy enough for two adults and a child but usually sailed by a parent and child or two kids, I have also enjoyed some great solo sailing.

The last owner painted and re-varnished her and did a good job. The varnish work is in good condition with some minor staining, which you can see in the photos.The hull paint is in good condition with two areas of minor paint blistering that do not affect its use in any way.

The seams are all "tight" and the boat does not take any water. There is no rot in the boat and structurally it is very sound.

It has an aluminium mast and timber spars. The mainsail and jib are well used but have plenty of life left in them, the boat is rigged for recreation rather than racing and does not have a spinnaker.

Since owning the boat I have revarnished the rudder, fitted a stainless steel self bailer ($100+), new tank bungs, new toe straps and renewed much of the cordage.

Oars and rowlocks are included, providing a well balanced rowing boat on days when you don't want to sail.

The Boeing trailer is in good condition and is fully adjusted to the boat, it has a winch and rollers to aid launching and recovery by an adult and child. The trailer is easy to tow, even by a small car, and is fully registered in NSW until September 2010.
