NEW BRUSH BOX DINING TABLE (100 YR OLD HASTINGS TIMBER)

These beautiful timbers were salvaged and recycled as a consequence of the demolition of a pier at Hastings, Westernport Bay, Victoria, circa 1997-1998. Prior to this time the brushbox has been in the ocean for more than 100 years. After de-ironing and milling these structural timbers, they were air-dried in sheds for more than 8 years, so as to achieve the opitimum furniture grade moisture content of 10%-12%.

In June 2006, ABsymmetrix cut, routered, joined, glued, clamped and sanded these magnificent timbers to construct 10 beautiful re-cycled brushbox tables, finished to the highest standards.  The legs have been joined using the traditional method of Mortice & Tennon joinery. All tables are constructed in the same timeless design.

Each Table has a short history of its timbers, date of manufacture and signature of the craftsmen who constructed it, inscribed in pencil on the undersurface of the slab, sealed in clear lacquer. All slabs are 1metre wide and varying lengths, from 2.1 to 2.770 metres.  

To date there are only 4 tables left of the ten; Two having been purchased by the Pro Hart organization in Broken Hill New South Wales, three sold to private collectors in Victoria and one sits pride of place in the boardroom of a Melbourne Shipping company.
