Crisp lines meet fluid motion in this refined design from Duboule. The stainless steel case has been given a unique geometric styling with a crisp mirror polish and an elegant etching along the side. Upon the dial itself, the radiating dual guilloché patterns present a lavish backdrop for the 4 subsidiary functions to rest. The date, month, day and even a way to perceive if it is day or night are all present as parts of the timekeeping whole. Finally, a textured leather strap slips smoothly upon your wrist before being held in place by a polished stainless steel buckle.

In 2006 the Duboule brand was acquired by Le Bonheur Groupe of Geneva Switzerland. Le Bonheur Groupe is managed by industry veteran Peter Leastch, who served as the president of the US division of the Swiss Watch Federation for over 10 years.

Beginning in 2007, under Le Bonheur, each Duboule timepiece has been meticulously hand crafted to the most stringent of Swiss standards with incredible precision and the highest quality materials.

The Movement

All calibers go through multiple quality inspection procedures to ensure that only those movements that qualify are assembled into each Duboule watch. These procedures include…

  • A visual inspection of the movement for any aesthetically challenged movements.
  • 3 (or more) proper power up and wind down cycles to ensure that each movement allows for 30+ hours of mainspring performance.
  • Inspection of the movement’s rotor bearings and retaining screw to make sure that they are neither too loose, too tight nor worn.
  • All movements must meet the individual caliber’s specification by means of an electronic timing evaluation to qualify for assembly into each Duboule product.

The Case

Each case in the Duboule collection is made from high grade 316L series stainless steel. Watch cases produced from this quality of steel material appear silver in color with craftsmanship and precision that is applied to many European watch styles and brands as well.

The crisp design lines, sharp edges, clean round holes and clear reflections are all hallmarks of these watch cases. Polishing finesse and proper polishing materials result in a satin finish with a discernable rainbow effect. The optical clarity of the mirror polishing on convex and faceted watch case faces approach a reflective appearance.

Each case has also been designed for the casual watch admirer’s point of view. While wearing a watch, often others see the watch from a only side view due to the piece being on the wearer’s wrist. So for a more aesthetic look, the cases have been fashioned with an ergonomic design and much intricate detail that’s pleasing to the eye.

Each case also goes through a rigorous assembly and testing process which includes… A "wet" water resistance inspection prior to assembly. The actual water testing is conducted upon empty cases which is more reliable than vacuum or high air pressure methods and avoids damage to the movement in the event of a case failure. A vacuum test in then completed on the finished product. Qualified cases are assembled in climate controlled production facilities before a final visual inspection and time setting are performed before the start of a 60 hour "burn-in" cycle. During this cycle, the watch heads are evaluated on two planes; 30 hours placed on crystal, 30 hours placed on back. A percentage of each lot is sent for movement timing evaluation after each 30 hour period. Then the movements and dials are added by the assembly team before being retuned to the "burn-in" vault for another 24 hours.

The Leather Strap

The leather straps for the Duboule line are fashioned with a special remborde technique.

The top layer is folded around and under the bottom layer to reduce the chances of water and/or perspiration damaging the inner layer of the strap. The top and bottom pieces of leather are the placed in a precision mold so that a press bonds the two pieces together under extreme heat & pressure. This process helps not only mold the strap into a thin line but also makes it almost impervious to moisture without weakening the strap in any way.

The coloration of these bands has also been taken into strict considerations. Not only has an alligator texture been applied to the cowhide leather upper layer but also a unique stylization that gradually shifts from light to dark as well. This specific choice of texture and hue is meant to compliment the shifting angles and highlights of the dials.

By the late 16th century master watchmakers were distinguished by their diversity and pure imagination; the sky was the limit for style and function alike. Timepieces were often made inside of pendants and charms shaped into everything from human skulls to various animals like dogs, rabbits, and even fish. The more obscure the piece, the better. As the complexity of timepieces matured, the distinction between watches and other types of jewelry became more defined.

Then a jeweler and watchmaker by the name of Martin Duboule took signing to the next level when he added the phrase, "a Geneve" underneath his name. This revolutionary decision was first presented on a skull watch made circa 1620. Martin was also known in his trade as a lapidary (precious stone engraver). This ability was well recognized when he created the earliest known Geneva watch decorated with champleve enamel that now resides in Paris' Cluny Museum.

Jean-Baptiste Duboule, Martin's son, soon became a master watchmaker and engraver in his own right. The astronomical fusee watch he made ca. 1680 now resides in the British museum and is claimed to be the finest piece ever made for its time.

Jean-Baptiste Duboule also would go on to revolutionize the fusee watch design. By the mid-17th century, watches operated with a mainspring made of either a length of catgut or chain. This spring, after the watch had been fully wound, will slowly wrap around a conical spiral as the timekeeper runs during the course of the day.

It is due to both father and son's immeasurable talents and contributions to the watchmaking world that we pay tribute. The plethora of beautiful timepieces that make up the Duboule collection are made with a perfect balance of precise craftsmanship and refined presence. So join us as we remember the brilliant watches of the past with these incredible timepieces of today.
