SPECIAL FEATURES:

MP3/WMA Playback: Discs containing MP3 files should be recorded at a bit rate between 8 and 320 kbps. WMA files should be recorded at a bit rate of 32 to 192 kbps. The CD-R physical format should be ISO 9660 or Joliet, while the DVD format should be ISO 9660 (UDF Bridge format). The total number of files and folders on a disc should be less than 1999.

HDMI: If you're looking to pump high-definition DVD playback into your HD displays or projectors, this Region Code Free machine will do the job. It has a high-bandwidth processor capable of upconverting to 720p/1080i through the HDMI output. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable.

Digital ATSC: It features ATSC and NTSC tuners, capable of receiving and recording both digital and analog broadcasts.

Progressive Scan: This unit is also a progressive scan DVD player, capable of scanning an entire video frame at once; scan-lines commonly associated with interlaced video are drastically reduced. The result is a spectacularly clear image with no motion artifacts (stair-stepping), and details so sharp they seem as if they're etched onto the screen.

Dolby Digital and DTS Decoders: If you're looking for a DVD player with exquisite audio playback, this powerful region free machine will do the job. Use the coaxial or optical audio outputs to connect the DVD player to your home theater receiver and enjoy full Dolby Digital surround-sound entertainment.

Recording Modes: There are 4 recording modes: XP (1h), SP (2h), LP (4h), EP (6h). Also, this Recorder has the ability to record up to an amazing 12 hours on a double-sided disc. (DL DVD-R, DL DVD+R)

One Touch Recording: One-Touch Recording provides a simple and convenient way to make a recording. Simply connect the DR-MV99B to your cable or satellite box and then to your TV, and you're ready to record with the push of a single-button.

JPEG Playback: It is recommended that JPEG image files of less than 4MB be recorded onto CDs or DVDs to avoid long file loading time. Like MP3 and WMA, no more than 1999 files and folders should be on any given disc.

Parental Control: You can limit the playback of certain rated DVDs based on their content. When the parental control function is "locked", you can select a rating of 1 (most restrictions) to 8 (least restrictive). When the function is "unlocked," parental control is not active, and the disc plays in full. Parental Control is protected by a 4-digit password.

Dynamic Range Control: When watching a DVD, you can compress the dynamic range of the audio output, allowing you to listen to a movie at a lower volume without losing sound clarity. The DRC can be turned on or off as desired.

Markers: You can start playback from up to six memorized points. You can set a marker at a point on the DVD where you'd like to quickly return. After markers are set on the disc, you can search for a specific marker by number, and begin playback from that point.

Remote Control: The supplied remote control can operate the DVD player, as well as TVs made by LG/GoldStar, Zenith, Samsung, Sony, and Hitachi. You can control the input source, volume, and power of TV.

Recording And Editing Features

DVD-VCR Dubbing: You can copy the contents of a DVD onto a VHS tape, or vice versa, using the Dubbing button. Copy-protected DVDs or VHS tapes cannot be copied

DVD Recording Speeds: This Region Code Free DVD Recorder can record DVDs in five preset recording quality modes. The modes and the recording time on a 4.7GB blank DVD include:

  • XP: Highest quality setting--1 hour recording time
  • SP: Default quality setting--2 hours recording time
  • LP: Slightly lower video quality--4 hours recording time
  • EP: Low video quality--6 hours recording time
  • DL DVD: Longest recording time with lowest video quality--12 hours recording time

VHS Recording Speeds: This unit can record onto VHS tape in two speeds: SP (standard play) or SLP (3 times SP). A standard T-120 tape will give you two hours of recording time in SP, and six hours of recording time in SLP.

Instant Timer Recording: Instant Timer Recording allows you to easily make a recording of a preset length without using the program timer. Recording starts after the first press of the Record button, and each subsequent press of the button increases the recording time by 10 minutes on the DVD or 30 minutes on the VCR.

Timer Recording: The Timer Recording function allows you to record up to 16 programs within a period of one month. You can choose a DVD recording speed of XP, SP, LP, EP, If recording on the VCR, you can select a speed of SP, SLP

Recording From External Inputs: You can record from external components, such as a camcorder or VCR. The recorder has three inputs: AV1 (rear panel), AV2 (front panel) and DV (front panel). You can record onto tape or DVD from the external device.

DVD Editing: Using the Title List menu, you can edit video content. For discs recorded in the VR mode, you can directly edit the original content, or create and edit a playlist. The Playlist doesn't change the original content, but controls how the content is played back.

Finalizing Discs: In order to play DVDs on other players, the disc must be finalized. Finalizing "fixes" the recordings and edits in place so the disc can be played on a regular DVD player or computer with a suitable DVD-ROM drive.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

Inputs: This POWERFUL REGION FREE RECORDER has three A/V inputs: composite video/stereo RCA audio on the back panel, composite video/stereo RCA audio on the front panel, and DV (IEEE 1394) on the front panel. • What Is HDTV? > Digital TV

Televisions (the combination of a display and a receiver) in the digital world are known as DTV's. DTV's come in three levels of performance SD for standard definition, ED for enhanced definition, and HD for high definition. All the DTV's on the market today can receive all DTV signals, and the TV adjusts the signal to match the performance level of the display. In other words, a HD signal can be received, and converted to a lower performance signal to display on a lower performance display, such as an EDTV explained below. The following is the accepted industry names for the three levels of DTV's:

    SDTV

TVs that receive all DTV broadcasts and display 480 interlaced lines of resolution presented in 4:3 aspect ratio (today's square-shaped analog TVs). This is the same resolution (picture detail) as today's analog TV systems.

    EDTV

TVs that receive all DTV broadcasts and display less than 720 lines (for example, 480p) are called EDTVs - "enhanced definition." The television's screen shape may be widescreen (16:9) or standard (4:3), but the image displayed is widescreen. This is the same resolution as today's DVDs.

    HDTV

TV's that receive all DTV broadcasts, and display 720 or more progressive lines (or rows of pixels measured vertically) are called "high definition." This includes 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. The television's screen shape may be widescreen or standard (4:3), but the image displayed is widescreen (16:9). HDTV is the fastest-growing segment in the market, and delivers the best performance - matching the quality of most broadcaster's signals.

  • Why Get HDTV? > HD Programming

Today, there are dozens of high definition programs transmitted in American homes around the clock. HD Programming is available via cable, satellite, and over-the-air broadcast. Programming can vary by station and delivery type - for example, satellite currently does not deliver TNT HD, while some cable systems do.

Broadcast networks provide a large portion of their primetime programs in high definition. They also provide some major sports including weekly football, regional baseball, as well as the playoffs and World Series, basketball and NASCAR. Many specials and major awards shows are now also available in HDTV.

Satellite companies are continually expanding their HD offerings to movies on HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, The Movie Channel, Starz, HD Net Movies and Encore. Additionally, they offer networks that provide a variety of content such as HD NET and ESPN HD. Arts and music are the mainstay of Bravo HD. Animation, extreme sports, travel logs and music videos channels are also now available full-time in HD via satellite. In some markets, ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX HD network programming is provided.

The Cable systems have stepped up to the plate as well. In addition to local channels, many offer premium HD movie channels and regional sports. Cable also offers its own exclusive network called In HD and In HD 2, providing movies, music and varied programming.
