It protects user data against unauthorized access through password protection. A digital signature can be applied to all data to allow recipients to verify data authenticity. Further, checksums are stored on the disc to verify data integrity and readability, and users do not need to worry about dependability with maximum data reliability through redundancy storage and defect data management system. LG's GH22NP20 DVD writer allows you to password-protect your DVDs before burning them using Ahead's Nero disc-writing software. Files on such discs can't be opened without your password, but they are still visible in Windows Explorer with their thumbnails intact. A 12MB utility has to be downloaded and installed before passwords can be entered; we don't know why it isn't included on burned discs. The utility works only with Windows 2000 or later. We were surprised by the fast disc-writing speeds. The GH22NP20 can't match its stated write speeds for single- or two-layer DVDs, but it is still one of the fastest DVD writers we've seen. Writing a full 4.7GB password-protected DVD took only a few seconds longer than a regular DVD. The password-protection feature needs improvement, but it will deter casual snoopers. Regardless, this is a fast DVD writer at a low price. GH22NP20, the world's first Super Multi drive with 12x DVD-RAM. The Super Multi drive supports not only DVD-RAM but all writable DVD's. GH22NP20 is the successor to the conventional Super Multi drive. This is the first time in the world that DVD-RAM can be written at 12x. What's more, GH22NP20 is capable of writing +R at industry's top level speed 22x, and is also compatible with +R double layer discs. It reads and writes CD-R and CD-RW, and reads DVD-ROM and CD-ROM as well, which makes this drive compatible with totally 9 types of discs. GH22NP20 is a built-in type Super Multi drive that can read/write all types of DVDs and CDs.
