This stunning three piece office furniture collection is made to a very high standard from solid premium grade (A grade) mahogany, beautifully finished, with solid brass fitting and real leather. The cabinets are hand made by craftsmen using traditional methods, like dovetail joints in the drawers and floating panels. In our display units we compliment the style with beveled 5mm thick glass to add that touch of class.

We also use some modern methods to ensure a stable and lasting product. All wood used is selected so as to avoid unwanted movement, such as quarter sawn timber in door rails to reduce the risk of warping. We have a modern automated kiln drying facility, which we use to dry the wood to ensure long lasting durability. This furniture will stand the test of time.

OUR UNIQUE ELEVEN STEP FINISHING PROCESS

1. Furniture is sanded over three grades, 150, 240, 320 grit
2. One coat of filler is applied and allowed to fully dry
3. Sanded using 400 grit
4. Finished with fine grade steel wool
5. Hand stained.
6. First coat of sanding sealer applied by spray and allowed to harden then cut back with fine steel wool
7. Second coat of sanding sealer, again cut back with steel wool
8. Fine colour toning by spray
9. Semi gloss or full gloss nitrocellulose top coat applied by spray and allowed to fully harden then de-nibbed with fine steel wool and beeswax.
10. Polished with beeswax and buffed
11. A final coat of linseed oil is applied and buffed to enhance the 'feel' of the furniture before being wrapped for shipping.

Our wood is kiln dried to below 12% so there is no major cracking or splitting as the wood ages. We use the best grade of lumber available to prevent any problems with time due to wood settling.

ABOUT MAHOGANY

Swietenia or Mahogany is a genus of Meliaceae family. There are three species in this genus: * Swietenia humilis (Central America to Mexico) * Swietenia macrophylla (The mainland species.) * Swietenia mahagani (Native to Florida and the Caribbean, all but extinct.) The trees grow 20-45 meters tall (Up to almost 150 feet), with a maximum trunk diameter of 2 meters (approximately 7 feet!) The trees can live up to 350 years and are either deciduous or evergreen. The young Mahogany wood is light but if it is stained and polished will become a beautiful reddish brown. The same occurs with age. The wood is used for several applications because of it's strength and density. It has a straight grain, and a fine, even texture which accepts many kinds of stains. It is one of the hardest of the neotropical woods.

Swietenia is known as genuine mahogany because there are several other imitation mahoganies, some from Africa , others from the Philippines . Though they are often mistakenly called Mahogany, only the swietenia is truly mahogany. Swietenia macrophylla is also known as caoba, mara, mogno, big leaf mahogany, grands feuilles, Honduras mahogany, Brazilian mahogany, and araputanga to name a few. The mahogany furnishings you will be purchasing from Mahogany Bay, is from the species swietenia macrophylla. It, like the teak (tectona grandis) is plantation grown in Indonesia . The trees are planted, harvested and replanted to ensure the continuation of this sustainable resource.

Mahogany is not indigenous to Indonesia, but rather the Americas, and by purchasing Mahogany from us you are assured that this wood comes from a reliable source. We take pride in the quality of the wood and also the workmanship.

CARING FOR MAHOGANY

Finished, indoor mahogany needs very little maintenance. Table wax and other furniture cleaners work well. You'll want to dust with a soft cloth every once in a while.

CARING FOR LEATHER

To clean leathers – use only a white damp cloth that is colourfast.

• Do not use detergents, solvents, abrasives, leather or suede cleaners.
• Do not dry clean or machine wash.
• Protect from direct sunlight and heat sources, both direct and through heating vents.
• Avoid sharp objects.

Vacuum regularly with the soft brush attachment of the vacuum cleaner to remove dust and grit, then wipe with a soft, colour fast cloth dampened with plain water. This should be done as often as necessary or at least every 2-3 weeks.
