Sigma is one of the top independent lens and accessory brands, and this EF-430 ST is an excellent TTL auto AF flashgun with bounce and power zoom features for most Minolta Dynax and Maxxum film cameras (but not very early or late models, or any digital cameras - see full list below). It's new and boxed (old stock), and supplied with batteries.

The bounce flash head tilts up to 90 degrees for bounce flash, giving much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash. Power zoom facility for lenses from 28mm and 35mm wide angle, through 50mm standard to 80mm (and longer) telephoto. This gives longer range with telephoto lenses, and better coverage with wide angles. The flash head zooms automatically to match the lens being used (even zooms), and an extra wide diffuser is supplied for lenses down to 18mm.

Powerful guide numbers from 30m (100 ft) at 28mm, 36m (117 feet) at 50mm to 43m (140) at 80mm with ISO 100, and 21m (68 feet) with the wide angle diffuser. Theoretical maximum range of up to 21m (68 feet) with ISO 100 film and 50mm f/1.7 lens. Greater range is available with faster film and longer lenses, but as with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. Thyristor circuitry for faster recycling and more flashes per set of batteries. Various manual settings are also provided, with full and low power options.

TTL (Through The Lens) flash control system for extremely accurate exposures. Works automatically in all exposure modes, including Program. Works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light. This operates automatically when required on suitable cameras. Auto daylight flash synchronization available on selected cameras.

Ready light provided, which flashes to confirm correct exposure after the shot has been taken. The flash uses 4x standard AA batteries including disposable alkaline (supplied), or NiCd and NiMH rechargeable types. Captive battery compartment cover which can't easily be dropped or lost. This flash is very nicely made (in Japan), with high quality materials and a high standard of fit and finish. It measures under 120mm (5 inches) tall on the camera, and weighs 260g without batteries. Special Minolta Dynax/Maxxum shoe fitting with locking button for secure mounting.

Flash units like this one are not suitable for Minolta, Konica Minolta or Sony Alpha digital cameras, or the Minolta or Konica Minolta Dynax 30, Dynax 40 or Maxxum 50 cameras which use a different pre-flash or ADI exposure control system. These models require Konica Minolta (D), Sony or other compatible flash units. Flash units like this one are NOT suitable for the Minolta 5000 AF (Maxxum 5000, Alpha 5000), 7000 AF (Maxxum 7000, Alpha 7000), 9000 AF (Maxxum 9000, Alpha 9000) cameras with standard hot shoe, manual focus Minoltas, or any other make of camera.
