GENERAL OVERVIEW

I constantly am on the lookout for cheap amplifiers that I can modify and improve without too much hassle and expense.

This is one of those type of amplifiers.

The amp is made in CHINA and is a rip-off from numerous well known designs by leading manufacturers.

The problem with this and others, is that they are not very well made and the overall workmanship at best is poor.

With this amplifier I have pulled it apart and fixed the really bad stuff, which is mainly poor soldering and poor workmanship.

I add extra earthing and replace the power supply circuit with my own version, which produces more current.

I do some other modifications to them as well to make them perform better in the Bass Response region. I improve the protection circuit and stabilize the ouput section to perform correctly under loads.

What is important is that the amplifier after inspection and modifications is a reasonable 4 channel amplifier with moderate outputs of 85 watts RMS/channel. The manufacturer states that the maximum output is 4X250watts, which is an improvement on how they rate their product(full explanation given below).

I do not say that this is audiophile quality, but for the asking price, it is GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY, especially after it has been modified.

The amp is located in AUSTRALIA and not in HONG KONG. I inspect, modify and do all the work required. I am a qualified electrical engineer and have been doing this for over 30 years.

If you have a problem, then I will be the one you will be resolving your problem. The warranty on this amplifier is with my company and not with some ASIAN based SELLER who has no idea about electronics. I will not give you the run around like other ebay Sellers.

Finally I sell other amps as well, just look in my store and read what I have to say. Also, read my feedback comments on the amps I sell. Most agree, great value for money.

FEATURES

  • This amp can be used either as a 4 channel,3 channel or 2 channel amp
  • The power supply is a PWM(pulse width modulation) MOSFET DC-DC power supply, which now supplies thae correct voltage and current required to produce the rated outputs.
  • The amp has two separate Frequency divider networks, or Cross-overs as we refer ot them as.
  • Ch3 and 4 have line outputs, which are non-fader outputs, that can be used to run another amp for your sub-woofers.
  • The amp is fitted with GOLD plated input and output connectors.
  • This amp has a three stage protection circuit, which now works correctly
  • This amp will now deliver 4 x 85 watts RMS per channel at a 4 ohm load.
  • The total harmonic distortion is only 0.04% at the rated output
  • The manufacturer quotes 4 x 250 watts maximum output per channel
  • Each pair of channels have a HPF and LPF that can be turned off and on. This is normally referred to as a cross-over.
  • Each crossover has a gain control and a variable frequency selector for both HP and LP filters.
  • Each pair of inputs also have a SUPER BASS control and a TREBLE control that can be switched from 0dB-6dB-12dB
  • The amp is easy to setup and use.

GENERAL COMMENT FROM THE SELLER

In recent times I have noticed a lot of Ebay Sellers mixing and matching specifications for amplifiers and speakers. At the best this can be misleading and at worst it can be fraudulent.

I am referring to the OUTPUT POWER ratings given to speakers and amplifiers.

I will not name the Sellers but will say that they are high volume Sellers who should know better.

The terms I am referring to are, PEAK, MAXIMUM, PMPO, MUSIC and RMS output power ratings.

The only TRUE, RELIABLE, CONSTANT reference rating that ALL professional organizations relate to is the RMS rating. In recent times they have included the MAXIMUM rating as well.

PEAK and PMPO ratings are very misleading and vary constantly from manufacturer to manufacturer. In reality they are very unreliable specifications that do not really indicate the correct output levels of amplifiers and speakers.

A Buyer should always look and ask for the RMS rating, especially when comparing one product against another.

I have also noticed that a lot of manufacturer's do not include the RMS ratings of their product. If you cannot find the RMS rating, then ask the supplier, manufacturer or Seller of the product for this specification. If they do not supply you with the RMS value, then you should consider looking elsewhere.

I myself have had to test units to obtain the TRUE RMS specifications, where they were not available. This, if you have the equipment and the knowledge, is quite easy to do. But not everyone has the equipment and the knowledge.

When I purchased this amplifer, and before I modified it, the original Supplier stated that the MAXIMUM output power of this amplifier was 3400Watts. Since I am a Electrical Engineer, I questioned this specification and supplied the Supplier with the definition, as stated by the ASS and the IEEE,for MAXIMUM output. They responded by informing me that they actually meant PEAK output power.

Now before we go any further, PEAK and MAXIMUM output power ratings are not the same and should never be referred to as the same.

I contacted the Supplier again and asked them for a direct defintion of what they call PEAK power. They replied by saying that," PEAK power is around 10 times the RMS power ". So automatically it is very clear that the RMS rating of this product, as defined by the supplier/manufacturer, is only 340watts. Now understand that this is their definition. Other suppliers and manufacturers have different definitions. One will say it is 8 times the RMS. Another will say it is 12 times and one has even stated that it is 20 times the RMS value. The main point here is that everyone has a different definition of PEAK output power and unless you know their definitions you cannot compare one amplifiers ratings against another. Therefore the term "PEAK" is misleading.

To add to this confusion, some Seller's, state the term "MAXIMUM" power output and want you to believe that MAXIMUM is the same as PEAK power output, which it clearly is not.

Maximum power is between 2-4 times the RMS power rating. In most cases it is stated as 2 times the RMS rating.

If we apply this to our 3400watt amplifer and believe the Seller that PEAK is the same as MAXIMUM, then the RMS power of this amp would appear to be 1700watts, which it clearly is not.The actual RMS ouput, as measured by myself is 340 watts.Huge difference hey.

Now you can see why some Seller's do not list the RMS values for their products. I have seen on Ebay items quoted with maximum power, instead of peak power. They then say that the RMS power is half the maximum power and then state that result as the TRUE RMS power, which it is not. I know this can become quite confusing to some and this is why True RMS ratings are important when comparing amplifiers and speakers.

The lesson to be learnt here is simple...look for RMS values in the specifications and do not believe the other ratings, since the Seller of the product(s) have either no real idea of the correct specifications or they are trying to decieve the Buyer in purchasing their product over other's.

I now always list the specifications as supplied to us by the Supplier, Manufacturer and original Seller. I also list, where possible the TRUE specifications and the RMS values. If possible I test the products and determine the values myself. Sometimes this can be impossible to do and uneconomical. If I am unable to list the RMS values, then I will place a note in the advertisement clearly stating this.

I hope this helps the Buyer in making the correct deciscion when deciding what product to purchase. With RMS values a Buyer is able to do DIRECT COMPARISONS.
