The courage of Ben and Ellen Bell and their 11-year old daughter, Matilda, has seen them through countless misfortunes in a country plagued by the harsh elements. Now drought is once again parching the Australian outback with devastating consequences. Having barely survived the recession of the early 1990's, the Bells now face an ever tumbling will price dwindle their profits away and their sheep die of starvation.

Then suddenly and without warning, a powerful dust storm kills their flock, wrecks their home and almost claims their lives. They are ruined and the unthinkable happens - the Bells must move to the city.
