NORMAN LINDSAY 1879-1969

The collection of pen drawings Lindsay created as illustrations for 'Women in Parliament' are some of the finest examples of his extraordinary penmanship. Published in 1929 by the Fanfrolico Press in an edition of 500 copies, the book contained four full page images and a number of page headers. the prints from the book have now become rare as so many copies have been lost due to moisture damage, foxing and insect damage.

This outstanding image is full page blank verso and printed in black ink on Batchelor's hand made paper. It is from Edition Number 486/500 and is in excellent condition. It comes with our Certificate of Authenticity which details its origin.

Image Size:  25cms x 20 cms (10" x 8")
Sheet Size:   37.5cmx x 27.5cms (14 3/4" x 10 3/4")

Note: The watermark of my id logo is not on the actual image.

COLLECTING NORMAN LINDSAY PRINTS

Norman Lindsay is probably the most collected artist in Australia. His oils, watercolours and original prints have now appreciated in value beyond the means of most buyers. Accordingly, printed images produced during his lifetime are now the most affordable.

Lindsay created, selected and collated many images for publication in books and portfolios. In most cases, these are the only source of the images. Publication of these images reached their peak in the 1920s when Lindsay was involved with the Fanfrolico Press. The majority of the publications were limited editions, some as small as 60 copies, of which very few still remain. It is unusual to find these books in good condition, without foxing, insect or water damage. Many have missing plates which have been removed for framing.

The rarity of many of the images has made them highly collectable and they continue to rise in value.

It is interesting to note that Limited Edition Facsimile Etchings seem to be good investments even though they were produced after Lindsay's death and clearly without his involvement. However, I do not sell them, because they are not lifetime impressions.

The Edition Statement is for reference only and is not included in this sale.
