Dickie Bird has been for thirty years England's best-known cricket umpire - his white-capped figure perching behind the stumps is a familiar sight to thousands throughout the world.

This book recalls Bird's early years and upbringing in Bradford, where he excelled at both cricket and football as a schoolboy - his first seasons as a country cricketer for Yorkshire and his decision to take up the umpire's white coat.  Bursting at the seams with personal anecdotes from the First Class and Test match games between 1970 and 1978 (the days of Dennis Lillee and Rodney Marsh, Derek Randall and Mike Brearley to name but four) and full of the wry sense of humour which made Bird 'Yorkshireman of the Year' and MBE, this book is a must read for any lover of cricket.

This 161 page softcover is illustrated with black and white photographs.  There are some creases to front cover and light brown marks to back cover.  Internally however it is in a very good, tight, clean condition.
