Napoleonic POW Strawwork Cabinet / Box c.1810
This is an exceptional Napoleonic prisoner of war made strawwork cabinet/box, circa 1810.
It deserves 3 times more illustations than Ebay will permit. There are 8 major panels with the finest inlay I have yet seen on a Napoleonic box depicting towns, waterways, ships, people & more. Beyond this there are 6 further pictorial panels including a depiction of the Montgolfier baloon which was first launched only a few years earlier in 1783.
It has one long, two short & two false drawers with scrolled decoration & turned mutton bone handles.

CONDITION The front panel folds down but the two pins that hold it in place have worn through their mounts, a tricky job. One hinge pin to the lid is missing but this can be replaced/repaired. The interior lid hinges are damaged on two of the interior lids.
In a sense this is nit picking as the box overall is among the finest anywhere, guaranteed without reservation.
