National Panasonic 6 BAND 12 Transistor Radio Model R-3000B
This Auction is for a rare and classic collectable large portable multi-band radio.
It's in good working order apart from a scratchy tone control.
There are some minor scuffs and cabinet damage (as per a couple of cracks) and one missing (cosmetic) chrome side/end plate, please refer to the photos…
The Tuning Dial and all controls are working fine and the radio is sensitive and appears to be showing correct frequency on display when tuned to a station ( =>> the dial calibration is OK )
The radio has a fold-up tuned square Loop Antenna which works well on Shortwave, there is also provision for an external wire antenna a ground terminal on the back connector panel, handy for DX'ing and listening to International SW Broadcasters.
The sound quality is EXCELLENT !!! I couldn't believe how nice it sounds, the Bass is well defined and the Treble is clear and puctual, without the Hiss that so many radios reveal.
Both music and voice programmes sound wonderful ! ( No poor MP3 grade repro here, true Analogue sound !! )
On Long and Medium Wave the radio uses a large internal ferrite rod, it is particularly sensitive on these bands, it's lunchtime and I can hear many Regional AM Stations and LW Beacons !!
Here are the frequency bands:-
-
Long Wave 150 to 400 KHz
-
Medium Wave 520 to 1610 KHz
-
Short Wave Band 1 - 1.6 to 4.5 MHz
-
Short Wave Band 2 - 4.5 to 10 MHz
-
Short Wave Band 3 - 10 to 20 MHz
-
Short Wave Band 4 - 20 to 30 MHz
A really neat feature of the radio, is that as you change band, the red dial pointer mechanically changes column to the selected band !
The controls as described across the front panel from left to right are :-
Volume/Power : Bass Tone : Treble Tone : Fine Tuning
The Main Dial Tuning knob is on the left side panel and the 6 position band select switch is below that.
There are rear panel jacks for an external headphones or speaker, a record out and phono input, again refer the photos....
It is an AC/DC Battery operated radio:-
Power Source AC 50-60 Hz 110V / 200V / 225V / 250V 6 Watts, has storage compartment with AC lead and plug tucked inside.
On DC, it requires SIX normal “D” size flashlight batteries UM-1 or equivalent 9Volts, the battery compartment is clean from corrosion and in good working order.
The radios Serial Number is 10069A
Built by Matshushita Electric Industrial Company Limited in Japan
