"Supporting local people to support themselves"

Fertility is of major importance to the Ndebele people. A fertility doll is made (in secret) for the bride by the maternal grandmother and is ritually presented to her when she enters her new hut after the wedding ceremony.

More than 70 Ndebele women from very poor economic circumstances earn an independent income from this project. The beading workmanship is meticulous in these colourful dolls you can see the pride in there work. She stands around 16cm tall and comes in a few other colours.
