PLEASE DO NOT PAY WITH AN "E-CHECK". These delay payment, not merely for the week that they take to "clear", but for an additional 21 days (because they are used as a pretext for interest generating 21 day payment holds). WAKE UP AND BOYCOTT THE BIG BANKS!!! Remember their role in recent history:
-They loaded up on bad debt in real estate, encouraging fraudulent "liar" loans and pushing their customers to sign the dotted line on ARMs and ERMs: instruments that they knew, full well, would devastate their naïve and trusting clients. Why? Because these practices brought in large fees and improved balance sheets. And besides, its really fun when you are all coked up and rocketing up the corporate ladder.
-They securitized the resulting mountains of bad debt and fobbed them off on the financial markets, targeting huge, poorly guarded, pools of collective retirement savings (and public savings like municipal funds).
-When the scam finally exploded they looted the national treasury in a breathtaking smash-and-grab that we have yet to fully comprehend. This will impoverish the towns and cities that many of us live in. Local governments, in turn, will take it out on working people by decreasing vital services and jacking up the cost of those that remain. Such hidden and brutally regressive tax schemes will proliferate, even as politicians outdo themselves with fatuous pledges not to raise taxes. This is all occurring against a backdrop of twenty years of wealth redistribution upwards that left working people hanging on for dear life well before the current crises. It is not hard to predict the resulting effects on human dignity, civil life, and crime.
-They gorged on our national wealth, using it to schedule ritzy vacations in wealthy watering holes, remodel executive suites, and to grant further, giant bonuses to the bad actors who are responsible for this crisis. Worse, they used much of the money to gobble up smaller banks, reducing competition and consolidating their stranglehold on the economy (and not incidentally guaranteeing, by the perverse logic of “to big to fail”, that they can continue to take huge and reckless gambles on the publics dime). These acts tore away the curtain, revealing the complete contempt that the Big Banks have for the congress and the voting public.
-They then drove the real economy, with a firm and unerring hand, even further into the ditch, refusing credit to small businesses and reneging on mortgage relief. The result has been depression-level job losses. The true impact of these policies is just beginning to be felt… and many families are exhausting all of their resources, and will soon be forced on the street.
-And, as if all that was not enough, they are pushing many more over the edge with ruinous overdraft fees, sudden increases in minimum credit card payments, and/or interest rate, and other dirty tricks that specifically target working people struggling to keep their head above water.
Yet, like idiots, we keep coming back for more. Will we accept the ruin of our country, and of many of our loved ones, in exchange for the convenience of an ATM on every block?
