O/On30 Ozsteam Hillside Mine Kit

This exciting project was recently completed in the workshops of our 'Bulahdelah Alum & Timber Company'. After numerous requests for more structure kits, we have designed a unique 'hillside' crushing and loading facility and packed it with interesting features.

This three story 1:48 scale mechanized plant will easily fit your layout and includes mine skips, a ball mill and a narrow gauge train loading strath. Why not place it against a cliff, wall or backdrop. Switch on the lights, add a motor and smoke generator and watch it prove a real conversation piece!

Prototype Operation:

In operation, 'pit ponies', men or boys would pull or push the 18" gauge skips (included) out of the adit or mine tunnel and over to the crushing plant where they release a load of coal or ore into the ball mill's receiving bin. We've supplied standard N gauge track (with a random wood tie option) so you can easily add more track between your mine tunnel and the plant. Next, coal/ore passes through a rotating ball mill where (depending on rotation speed and iron ball diameter) it would be crushed to a standard size. The processed material then falls down a chute and into a storage loading hopper where it can be dumped into trains as they arrive at the strath.

The entire operation could be powered by an electric motor or steam boiler coupled to our twin or single cylinder steam donkey engines (available separately from our Store). This setup would drive the ball mill via a long belt.

Note: this is a basic structure kit with all the parts you need to make the hillside mine as pictured. Motor and power options are discussed but not included in the kit. Ball Mill, lighting, On18 skips & track, Nut/Bolt/Washer sets, corrugated iron, all lumber and a 'coal' pack are included in our kit but the workman figure, Rail Truck, On30 skips & track, boiler & steam engine are all available separately.
