THIS IS AN  OLD COLONIAL BETEL NUT AND LIME CONTAINER FROM CENTRAL JAVA INDONESIA. 

I FOUND THIS IN A KAMPUNG OUTSIDE OF YOGYAKARTA AND I HAVE MADE NO ATTEMPT TO CLEAN OR RESTORE.

MADE OF PRESSED BRASS OR ALLOY METAL.

THERE IS A LARGE AMOUNT OF SURFACE CORROSION ON THE TOP SECTION AND WHICH SHOULD  CLEAN UP IF DESIRED. THERE ARE 2 STORAGE COMPARTMENTS (1 LARGE RECTANGULAR WITH A SMALL LATCH AND 1 SMALL SQUARE ONE) WITH LIDS, AND 2 RECTANGULAR TRAYS WITH REMOVABLE COMPATMENT BOXES. THERE IS STILL LIME RESIDUE IN THE SMALLER LIDDED STORAGE COMPARTMENT.

THE CENTRAL STORAGE COMPARTMENT SECTION HAS A SERIES OF PERFORATIONS ALONG ITS LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE.

MEASURES APPROX 21.5cm (L) X 9cm (H) X 13.5cm (W).
