EXTREMELY GOOD CONDITION FOR AGE

This Old Turkoman Pile Rug Has a Hand Spun, Very Lustrous Yet Very Hardy Locally Grown Wool Pile Asymmetrically Hand Knotted to the Hand Spun Wool Warps and Wefts in the Obvious Style of a Tekke Weaver with A Soft Loose Handle. The Border Ornaments and Field Guls are of Obvious Tekke Form and The Colours, Excellent Quality of the Wool, Fine Abrash Line in the Ground which is Proof of Being Hand Knotted Over a Long Period of Time and the Wool Not All Dyed at the Same Time, and Handle of this Rug Identify it as Coming from the Far North of Afghanistan and Created in a Village Environment by Semi Nomadic Descendants of the Turkoman Tribes who Moved into the Far North of Afghanistan To Escape the Russian incursion into Turkestan in the Early 1900s.

This Example is 1.62m x 1.15m (5ft 4 inches x 3ft 9 inches) and the Aging of the Colours on the Front of the Rug are Obvious Proof of an Origin in the 1930s. It Has Just Been Hand Washed, is in Extremely Good Condition for its Age with Long, Lustrous Pile, some of the Original Kilim Ends still Intact at one end and the Warps Consolidated at the Other with Only Very Minor Signs of Age on the Selvedges. This Excellent Example of North Afghan Turkoman Village Weaving will Last On the Floor for many, Many Years and will Enhance Any Decor with its Timeless, Traditional Turkoman Appeal. See Photos.
