WW1 Iron Cross awarded for Gallantry (Bravery) in Combat

The world famous German Iron Cross (Eisernes Kreuz) as awarded for Gallantry. Superior quality made of 3 piece construction with 2 extra fine Silver frames and 1 Iron centre magnetic core. In a fantastic original condition considering this medal is over 90 years old now, it is 100% original. Makers Marked (Hallmarked) " K.A.G. " on the suspension ring.

Iron Cross History: Originally created in 1813 by King Fredrick III during Prussia's period of 'blood and iron' -- their struggle for survival against Napoleon. The award was to supersede all other bravery awards and only during times of war. The Iron Cross was re-issued during the Franco-Prussian war (1870-71). The 1914 Iron Cross was established in three classes: Second Class as on auction, First Class and Grand Cross. The Grand Cross was of the same design, but physically larger and worn around the neck. In 1916, the grand cross was augmented with a large breast star, which was bestowed upon only one recipient - Field Marshall Von Hindenburg.

The centre core is a separate Iron Plate, to make sure, take a simple fridge magnet and see if it sticks to the Iron Centre Core, then have a look at the Ribbon Suspension Ring using a magnifying glass, usually the WW1 German authorized manufacturer has stamped his name in the form of a few letters onto the ring, to identify the maker of a particular German Iron Cross, a list of German WW1 manufactures can be found on the internet.
