ORIGINAL WW2 GERMAN CROSS GOLD ORDER MEDAL IRON CROSS

This extremely scarce Type 1 made in the 1950's WW2 / 57 GERMAN CROSS GOLD IN PRESENTATION CASE. Guaranteed 100% original. These early Type 1 Badges are extremely scarce, and highly prized by military collector's worldwide. 

Made to comply with the new German laws of 1957 Without Banned Nazi Swastika, instead showing the history revised Oak Leaf.  Awarded to German WW2 combat Veterans' who were entitled to wear one of Germany's highest WW2 Gallantry decorations for acts of Gallantry in in the face of the enemy, combat on the battlefields of WW2.

This type of German Order was re-awarded without the Swastika to high ranking German Officers who served in WW2 and then continued their military careers in the newly formed post WW2 German (Bundeswehr) Federal Defense Force which was formed in the 1950's, now again proudly wearing these German Gallantry Orders on their military tunics, serving with allied NATO forces in the Cold War against the then Soviet Union. Also worn by veterans' to their once yearly unit Kriegs Kameraden reunions.

This scarce German Order was made by the famous maker Deschler & Sohn, distinguishable by the 4x Hollow Rivets on the reverse. Steinhauer & Lueck the main German Government contractor used Domed Rivets on the reverse of their crosses.

ORIGINAL CONSTRUCTION: 6 Part construction which is 100% correct for this type of German Order, with the correct 4 Rivets on the reverse. The very same manufacturer made these decoration during WW2.

 AWARDED FOR THE HIGHEST ACTS OF GALLANTRY COMBAT WW2

HISTORY: The German Cross (Deutsches Kreuz) was instituted by A.H. himself on 16 November 1941 as an award ranking higher than the Iron Cross First Class but below the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. It was issued in two divisions: Gold and Silver (the color of the laurel wreath), Gold for Gallantry (Bravery) in combat, Silver for Service at the highest level to Germany during WW2.

This award was actually more a star than a cross, and had a rather gaudy design, It had a diameter of 65.mm or 2 1/2 " and was worn on the righthand pocket of the tunic. If a recipient was awarded both the silver and gold divisions, both of them could be worn on the uniform.

This award was also available in cloth form, which made for easier wear on the combat uniform. Far more awards in gold (combat) were made than in silver (support).
