Brand New Exquisite Design Hand-Made and Hand Painted Ceramic Plate From Anatolia.

Design Type: Embossed, Classic

Cini ceramics’ figures, designs and motifs evoke an ever-connecting link with the past and nature in truly unique art forms.

The plate is 22.5cm in diameter

WHAT IS CINI (TILE) ART?

Tile is a one face glazed coating substance which is decorated with coloured patterns and decals. Under- glaze technique is used while making these tiles.

The decorated tile (also known as cini) is a coating material that its one surface is glazed and embroidered with coloured motives.

Cini (earthenware glazed tiles) are usually used in architecture, and products such as pots and bowls. Cini, which is a branch of ceramic art that developed in Central Asia, was brought to Anatolia by the Seljuke.

It occupied a very important place in Ottoman architectural decoration and embellished mosques, medreses (theological schools), tombs and palaces. Geometric writings with figures, plant designs, and yellow and green colors were used.

It is very amazing improvement of the technique –in the 16th century- to apply these seven colors under glaze : turquoise, blue, a kind of dark green, red, light cobalt, white and sometimes black.

MYSTERY and MAGIC of TILES

Tiles are produced in a higly long and tiring way and are made up of the colurs of water. The

tones used in tiles are the tones of water. The tones of blue used in tile production are the

most fascinating/enchanting component that makes tiles desirable.

Unless you give your soul touch to tile,it is impossible for you to produce it. Due to the

“quartz”,the material used in tile production,it easily draws your attention and increase your

desire to touch it. The reason why tiles are so unique is that the craftsman has to use colour

tones by fancying the tones

The patterns on tile are the ones who reach the visible sky. Also in its production period, every

step is taken in a worship/devotion manner.Tiles keep the request to be integrated with the

universe.

Tile dyes don’t reflect their real colours. In painting period, they have different tones and

shines. After firing, the craftsman has to use colour tones by fantasizing the last forms of the

tones. Also,as only one colour is used, this process is much more diffucult than it seems to be.

Thanks to its sparkling glaze surface, tiles are waterproof and they prevent bacterias and

fungus from preventing.By absorbing the light slightly, the sparkling side of glaze enables the

colours under glaze to be seen as alive and bright and the light to reflect in a right way.

The types of the tiles are; Elhamra,Millenium,Embossed,Sable and Turquoise. All of the

products are the unique samples of the tiles representing first class quality.

I invite you to look into the inside of the tile.

First of all seven different materials as quartz ,kaolen , sands … are mixed then made the

clay .Nearly 20 days later the clay turns into a unique , fabulous artistic work.

Then some shapes ( vases, plates, ashtrays etc ) are made by using the clay. After that, the

items are dried carefully.

The shaped products are undercoated in order to be seen as bright and white .

These shaped items are fired in the oven for 24 hours , in the degree of 1000.The first fire

is named “ biskuvi “

The pattern(geometric writings with figures, plant designs: especially tulips, carnation… ) is

outlined to a thin paper .Then it is to be pierced by small pines .The briquette is used to

firm the pattern on the biskuvi ( shaped products )

The pattern is painted with hairy brush by using bright colours. While painting natural dyes are

used. All patterns and dyes are products of handmade/ painted besides ,the paints are

resistant against fading.

To brighten the product it is glazed and this process protects the goods and it is fired once

more time in the degree of 900.

The fabulous ,breathtaking tile products are ready.

.Each product shares its history with us .

They will never go out of style. These tiles are the antiques of tomorrow !!!

THE HISTORY OF THE CINI (TILE) ART

It is believed that tile art has been started in the Middle East and from there moved to Anatolia and to Europe. Assur, Iran, Middle East Turks and Egyptians have used tiles-which is a branch of Fine Arts now - to decorate buildings and inscriptions.

At the ages of Seljuks and Ottoman Empire, in some places in Anatolia tile production have been made. So many tile samples from the ages of Seljuk Empire glazed in firuze (turquoise), green, cobalt blue, Brown and transparent colors can be seen.
