Q. What is the Oxford 924 Chipset?

A. The Oxford 924 plus is a premium chipset, which controls the speed and quality of the communication between your Mac and the hard drive. This means that unlike the cheaper chipset based drives (which are all over eBay at the moment), this drive is more reliable on the Mac. We are an Apple Mac technical services company and we have seen many other chipset based drives fail. Other chipset based drives work fine on PC's as they were designed for PC's not Macs. Don't make the same mistake. OWC Mercury Elite are superb and as you can see from the pictures, they have been designed for the Mac.

Q.How do they compare to other market leading drives?

A. They are incredibly fast. We have tested their speed against other drives an in the sustained and random write tests, these outperform LaCie as well as the MyBook drives (which have inferior hard drives installed).

They are made of the highest quality components. They are made of brushed alluminum and are really stylish (they look just as good in real life as in the photographs above). In our opinion they possibly are the best drives on the market and come at a much cheaper price than most of the "market leading" brands.

Q. What do I use the drive for?

A. We can't stress how important it is to back up your files. The key to safeguarding data is to always have that data stored in two places at once. If your data is NOT in two places at this time, and if you don't have tested and functioning back up plan in place then your data has been compromised.
