How she works:
Using your old donor Bachmann Class B Climax with some common modeler's tools, our custom designed 'Dunkirk' conversion kit will transform your common old 28 ton Climax into a show stopper!
"Our kit features a centrally located vertical boiler which provides 'steam' for a twin cylinder vertical engine. This unit 'drives' various gears and power take-off warping drums or capstans and is controlled by our die-cast Driver through a bank of levers and steam cocks. (he says he enjoys driving in cold weather as his back is warmed by the boiler!) Fitted to the crank shaft is a heavy cast metal flywheel which is reduction geared to a transfer case located below the chassis. Here, drive is split to the front and rear 4WD trucks so all wheels are driven, ensuring maximum traction for your narrow gauge logging or mining operation!
To further assist with traction, our coal (or wood) filled fuel bunker is located over the rear truck, within shovelling distance from the boiler. This aft domain is home to our (cast metal) Fireman who's job is keeping up steam. Forward, a hollow cast resin 'corrugated iron' water tank (which can be lead filled) is positioned over the leading truck. To facilitate night steaming, we have planned for the fitting a constant brightness DCC operated 'kerosene' headlamp to the water tank. It is slightly offset to give the driver clear vision of the track ahead".
