DESCRIPTION
The process of making this painting is as much my art as the painting itself. This work is a collaborative effort between myself and Zanelle, a unique custom built robot that I designed to paint with an artists brush on canvas. A movie of her painting can be seen to the left. To the eye, these works appears to be ordinary hand paintings as they are made stroke by stroke. However, what the robot decides to paint, and how this design comes about is anything but ordinary. Zanelle uses an array of neural net algorithms to both design and execute each piece of art. Details of the exact process and all the decisions that the robot is making autonomously can be seen at www.zanelle.com. This art work is as much about the process of teaching my robot aesthetics as it is the image. I am working to improve my robots algorithms with each painting. By purchasing this piece, you will be supporting this long term art project as all proceeds go directly back into improving Zanelle. The average Zanelle painting has 25,000 to 50,000 brush strokes and takes over 24 hours to paint.
