GLORIOUS OVENS VALLEY WATTLE
GENUS ACACIA PRAVISSIMA

Australia has some 800 different species of acacia, or wattle as they are commonly called. As is to be expected they range greatly in their form and tolerances with there being many that qualify as highly desirable feature plants for domestic purposes. Put two gardeners together and a debate will rage as to twhich of the species is the more desirable. Often this is purely a matter of personal preference or loyalty. We have chosen a number of wattle to list based partly on our personal loyalties and preference and primarily on their specific features and desirability.

Acacia pravissima is a particular favourite of ours, primarily because it is just a highly attractive tree with many desirable features. It is a hardy, upright, bushy shrub to 10 to 12 feet in height and as broad. It is a showy tree all year round with its slightly pendulous habit that gives it an almost weeping appearance and in the spring and early summer when it is in bloom it is a mass of bright vibrant colour with a profusion of bright yellow racemes 4 to six inches long and a delightful fresh fragrance.

As with most acacia it is fast growing, and this one, hailing from the cooller climate of North Eastern Victoria, can withstand frost and colder weather - down to about -10C/15*F. It can withstand slight coastal exposure and extended periods of dryness. It can be trimmed and shaped and this may be necessary to maintain a truly desirable size and form although it is generally a well behaved species. It is a widely cultivated species adaptable to a range of climates and soils that will grow in dappled light or full sun. As a result of its versatility and desirable qualities several commercial cultivars of this species have been developed that only come true to form from cuttings.

As with all acacia germination and propagation from seed is easy with only a miminum of pre-treatment required.

In accordance with Ebay policy it is confirmed that this species is not a noxious or declared weed.
