This is an Interesting Original painting by JAMES GOVETT titled 'The Nightwatch'. It shows a  painting of REMBRANDT'S Huge Masterpiece hanging at the RIJKMUSEUM, "THE NIGHTWATCH", painted in 1642. A truly magnificent painting.

Medium: Oil on Belgian Canvas over a stretcher frame.

It is newly framed in a lovely gold ornate timber that simply brings the scene to life.

It is signed on the reverse, and was painted around 1975.

This painting by JAMES GOVETT after Rembrandt is an Impressionist Example but quite a lot smaller than the original. James Govett, was well known for his many visits to the Rijkmuseum, as he was fascinated by the masters work. He used to copy Rembrandt's artwork as often as he could.

GOVETT, James  Romaine; (born 18th July 1909, died 11th July 1998).Landscape Painter and Portrait Artist, in Watercolour and Oils. A descendent of the famous 17th C architect Inigo Jones. He studied Art at Melbourne National Gallery School, and Max Meldrum School 1930-39. Then moved to London where he studied under Thomas Dugdale at the Chelsea School of Art c 1947. He has exhibited at the Qantas Gallery London 1966, Hilton Park Lane London 1972, and Woburn Abbey 1976. His work has also been exhibited in Sydney and Canberra. He is represented in Public and Private Collections, including HRH The Prince of Wales, in Australia and the UK.
