Lovely Old Hand Painted Milk Glass Vases - Pair

Don't take your eyes off this one - it's worth the 7 day wait to own it!

This pair is lovely but please bear in mind that one has met with an accident at some stage of it's life and has been lovingly glued back together. When they are on display on the mantlepiece you cannot even notice but on close inspection, you can see where it has been glued so check out the photos showing some of the cracks/repairs.

None of the small imperfections detract from the stunning beauty of these 30cm tall vases. At approx. 15cm across at the widest point I think you will agree that they are a wonderful example of the quality of work that came from a century ago. The background colour is preominantly white and the top of the vases are a deep terracotta fading down to the white. The flowers are generaly yellow/green or mauve/deep pink. the leaves are a blend of light and dark green and stems are black and grey. All of the flowers & leaves are highlighted with gold. The gold and some of the white & black spots are in relief so you can feel them when you touch the vases. The back of each vase is plain white with terracotta at the top. They are very fine glass and sort of opaque - when you look inside, you can see the light through them and the shadow on where your hand is. There are no markings on the bottom and the base of each vase is smooth. There is gold around the top of each rim which is a little worn in places and a small chip on the rim of the "lovingly mended one" but I think it may have happened during manufacturing as it appears to be terracotta and gold paint in it. There is a 1cm long scratch (about 1mm wide) in the terracotta part of the whole vase - doesnt' detract from the look of the pair and on display is not really something you look at. I don't know their exact age but I know my father bought these about 30+ years ago at an antique sale. I don't know their origin either but have always presumed them to be English. I feel like I can't describe these pair of vases adequately enough to do them justice. You can be the judge from the photos.
