The OBDKey Professional is a match box sized portable scan tool used to quickly and easily to diagnose vehicle problems.

The OBDKey Professional Unit

Owning a small portable scan tool is essential to monitor the healthy state of your vehicle's engine management system for regular check-ups between services and maintenance periods.

The OBDKey Professional is available with a USB connection or a Bluetooth interface.

The Bluetooth connection is usually preferred where you prefer to operate a wire-free diagnostic environment.

The USB connection is usually preferred where you already have a PC or laptop equipped with a USB port.

Bluetooth offers a very flexible option as many handheld devices such as Pocket PC's, PDA's, Palm devices and mobile phones have Bluetooth built in. This means you can use your own handheld device to access the vehicle data with the OBDKey.

Software is supplied for the PC and Pocket PC (PDA, Windows CE). Palm, Windows Smartphones and Java versions are also available.

Bluetooth Specifications and Information

OBDKey Professional uses a Class II Bluetooth module, conforming to the Bluetooth standard. 

This permits a large ranges of up to 30 meters and interference-free, secure wireless connections.  The Bluetooth module inside the OBDKey Professional has been qualified by BQTF and RoHS.

Even in the workshop conditions ranges up to 30 meters are possible.

The OBDKey Professional device includes an integrated Bluetooth antenna. The handheld device or computer needs its own Bluetooth radio device to create the wireless connection.

USB Specifications and Information

USB Specification 2.0 compliant; full-speed (12 Mbps). Virtual COM port device drivers supplied for Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Apple MAC OS-9, Apple MAC OS-X, Linux 2.40.  Supply Voltage from USB is not used to power the OBD interface, only the USB electronics of the OBDKey Professional. Lead free USB components.

The OBDKey Professional is supplied with a 2 metre (6 foot) USB Type 'A' to USB Mini-B cable.

Engine (MIL) Light On?

If the engine light on your dashboard has come on it means that the vehicle's own on-board computer has found a critical fault in the electronic engine management system (ECU).  This requires urgent attention to find out what the ECU has found and what to do to repair the problem and clear the fault from the ECU.

The OBDKey Professional and its supplied software helps a vehicle owner to find out those faults from the ECU.  Usually only a garage or trained professional is able to tell you what the ECU has found.

Any information found by the OBDKey Professional is referred to the supplied fault code look up database built into the OBDKey Professional software. Faults But Not Light On Yet?

Not all engine management trouble codes will illuminate the Check Engine light, but OBDKey Professional will be able to inform you of all fault codes, whether temporary faults or longer term faults.

Reading Fault Codes?
