(Dye creates a residue that is excreted in the feather, making the naturally brilliant feather color dull and deposits a rusty looking outline to the feather tip that makes the feathers on the back look scalloped like a fish-scale pattern.) A mill formulates these Special Needs Pellets to our specifications. They are shipped FLAT RATE USPS, 20 lbs... are $49.95, packed in bulk. We have been feeding them to our birds in this formulation since 1994 with excellent results, which might also be due to their freshness as well as the ingredients. Most other brands of pellets sit in a distribution warehouse or pet store for 3-6 months before reaching the end user. We get a fresh shipment in directly from the mill every 2-3 weeks, and they are all shipped out in that amount of time because so many people continue to order them.

Getting any parrot to accept this wonderful pellet is not difficult. It is a good idea to mix them 50-50 with whatever pellets they are used to accepting until it runs out, and they will change over to it without acceptance problems. It will look enough like the former pellet during the transition in the 50-50 ratio, even if they were fed the Froot-Loopy colored type of pellet loaded with dye and perfume. 

To convert to a new pellet gradually, mix 90% former pellet with 10% new food in the same bowl. In a few days go to 75% old, 25% new, later 50-50, later 25-75.   Making a gradual change will allow you to make an easy transition if birds at first reject change. We are also often told that cockatoos and greys love our pellets by folks who had bought it for their Eclectus, and their other types of birds work at stealing it.  These folks were also shocked at the improvement in the feather quality of their birds.  It is also important to feed 75% of the diet as whatever fresh food your bird will accept along with it, as all living things need the living enzymes in the fresh food. You should also use 1/2 tsp. per day of Avian Trio and 1/4 tsp. Spirulina, both sold in both our eBay Store and website.
