Parsnip, Hollow Crown (Pastinaca sativa)

Description:

800 Seeds

Parsnips are an ancient root crop used by the Romans. It has a sweet flavour, use them like carrots, in soups and stews, or steamed or baked. Grows in a similar fashion to carrot with deep friable soil. Germination is slow and preventing the soil from drying out is essential for success. Covering seed rows with shade cloth, hessian or cardboard etc until germination, can help Frost improves flavour.

HOLLOW CROWN

Hollow crown parsnip is one of the oldest and the best known Australian varieties. Very productive, it is grown both for home garden and market. The parsnip roots are creamy white and grow 25-30cm long.
