Charlie Horse 3rd Squadron, 5th Cavalry - Recon Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam
Black Knights DMX to Saigon, Laos and Cambodia
Charlie Horse 3rd Sqn, 5th Cavalry Flight Jacket Patch. Out of Fort Riley in February of 1967, the 3rd Squadron, 5th Cavalry served initially in the Mekong Delta with the 9th Infantry Division operating from My Tho to Saigon and throughout Phuoc Tuy Province. During the Tet Offensive of early 1968 the entire Squadron redeployed to CTZ I at the DMZ with operations at Hue and Khe Sanh. By December of 1969 it was operating in support of the 101st Airborne Division in the battles of A Shau Valley and into Laos. It participated in the invasion of Cambodia and was back with the 101st Airborne in 1971. Althoughpart of the unit returned to the US in November of 1971 elements remained operational with the 101st Airborne until their departure from Vietnam in 1972.
