Dong Tre, Special Forces - LLDB
This is a spectacularly rare Vietnam War patch. The Dong Tre Special Forces were a Joint, South Vietnam Special Forces Airborne and Tiger Force Rangers (Elite Special Forces) unit that operated akin to a Provincial Recon Unit. Unit alos included Indigenous Montagnard Operatives. As a broad unit was considered to be Tiger Force Rangers however unit was led by operatives of the US, 5th Special Forces Group, Airborne and operated under the command of the Mobile Strike Force, 5th SFG (Mike Force). Not restricted to the area around Dong Tre ( Military Corps Tactical Zone II, CTZ II) the unit operated out of the US Special Forces / CIDG joint base at Dong Tre designated Detachment A-222. A-222 operated from US Special Forces Command from as early as 1963 and the PRU elemet grew to over 650 operatives by the time of the Tet Offesnive of 1968. In June of 1969 the US Special Forces turned the base and the command of the unit and associated operatives over to a joint, ARVN Special Forces, Tiger Force Rangers Command.
