• Try to cut down on unnecessary characters (the fewer the characters, the bigger the font).
  This is particularly important for smaller tags.
  Examples of unnecessary characters:
  • Phone or Ph: (everybody can recognise a phone number when they see it!)
    I consider your phone number(s) to be of the utmost importance, so I endeavor to make them as big as possible. If each phone number is on a line without any other characters then I can do a great job of it for you. :-)
  • State (unless you live near the border, or your pet travels interstate with you)
  • Postcode (nobody's going to post your pet back. I hope!)
  • Consider using abbreviated street names (eg 'St' instead of 'Street').
• Engraving ideas (for Reverse Side of tag):
  • Your phone number(s)
  • Your street address (and perhaps suburb)
    Note: Consider this a potential security risk (easy way to get your address) if you live in an unsafe area (or if you're paranoid). That being said, I have no problem putting my address on my dog's tag as I live in a very boring (safe) suburb and it's a blue moon when he manages to get out. It is useful if your dog has only wandered around the corner.

• If you've narrowed down your choice of colour to a few options, then I recommend going for the more vibrant option as these provide a better contrast for the engraving. For example, engraving appears better on Black as opposed to Silver (although that's not to say Silver will look bad if you have your heart set on it!).
• Simple images and fonts will look best on small tags (the XS size tags in particular).
• If you'd like to see your pet's name in ALL the Fonts, just shoot me an email as I'm more than happy to send you a sample (it's no trouble). I prefer not to send proofs of the whole design as this is too time consuming, but willing to if you insist or threaten me (really, I can do it if it's very important to you).
• I can put your image on an angle if you think it will look better. Just ask me.
• I can choose the location of your image if you're not sure where will look best (often I don't even know until I try!).
• As a very general rule, I recommend images above/below your pet's name (either left/right/center). If the image is in the same line as your pet's name, I tend to have to make the pet name and image smaller than they otherwise would be.
• I have Small (16mm) and Medium (20mm) split rings attachments available. The small is suitable for cats and small dogs, while the medium for medium and large dogs. I usually guess based on the size of the tag you order (or any other clues I'm given), but if you'd like to specify one or the other you're most welcome to.
• I strongly recommend getting your pet microchipped if he/she isn't already. The random person who finds your pet is probably unlikely to have a microchip reader in their back pocket, but any pet collar and/or tag can mysteriously come off (or be removed), in which case your pet will hopefully end up at a local vet clinic or pound; then scanned, and returned to you safely.
  * I'm not saying my pet tags aren't durable, they're virtually unbreakable - promise! :-)
• Making these pet tags is a very time consuming (and not very profitable) hobby, so please only ask for a discount if it's for a big order (more than five tags) or more than two identical tags. If you want several tags for a business venture you are welcome to submit your own artwork/logo for engraving. If it's for a shelter or pound, I am happy to give a considerable discount, so please feel welcome to enquire.
• I use "Mr Sheen" (silicone-based furniture polish) to clean my own pet's tag when dirty (the little bugger is fond of rolling around in dirt!). It quickly and easily removes dirt, ads a bit of shine, and might protect it a little (completely unsubstantiated). :-)
