>>>>>Use this with a turntable and amplified computer speakers to make your own Stereo!<<<<<

Whenever we list these, we gets tons of questions.  That's fine - we're glad to answer but I have included a lot of info here to help interested eBayers make a decision.  If you already know all about phono pre-amps, just skip over most of this. There are no new, cutting edge revelations being exposed for the first time.

What is a phono pre-amp and do I need one?

The main job of a phono pre-amp these days is to allow the use of a standard turntable with a home theater receiver, late model stereo receiver, CD recorder or computer sound card.  If your receiver or other device has inputs as you see in the picture to the right then you do not need a pre-amp.  Observe the word "PHONO".  If you do not see the word "PHONO" being used to identify two inputs in your receiver or other device then you probably DO NEED a phono pre-amp.

In the picture to the right here, you will see lots of inputs but none identified as PHONO.  In a situation like this you WILL NEED a phono pre-amp.  There are a lot of available connectors but none are labeled PHONO. JUST BECAUSE A TURNTABLE WILL PLUG INTO A CONNECTOR DOES NOT MAKE THAT CONNECTOR A PHONO CONNECTOR!

Is this amp RIAA Equalized?

"RIAA Equalized" is a hideously wrongly & over used term.  To put your mind at ease: YES.  RIAA equalized.

RIAA is an abbreviation for the Recording Industry Association of America.  It is a business / trade association made up of music distributors much like the AICPA (the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) is made up of number crunchers.  These days, having an RIAA equalized amp is like having a handful of pencils with AICPA approved lead. In 1952 when the RIAA was formed, record equalization was an issue.  ALL records were equalized based upon their label.  So, an RCA record played using the Decca equalizer curve didn't sound as good.  Of course, none of it sounded like contemporary stereo, microgroove LP's.  From the kitchen, you really didn't know if that sound was Roberta Peters caterwauling around the parlor at 78 rpm with the Metropolitan Opera or if Grandpa had just run over the cat. The purpose of the label equalization was to allow manufacturers to develop brand loyalty both with equipment and with records.  The small record producers, however, could not compete financially each on their own. As a result, with strength in numbers, the RIAA quickly standardized their curve which basically just rendered back EXACTLY what was recorded.  That technology is quite arcane and even for the old aficionados', a true RIAA equalization adds absolutely NOTHING to the playback. That's the point.

How do I hook up my pre-amp?
Does it require any tools or other parts not supplied with this purchase?

THIS PACKAGE IS FOR EXPORT AND INCLUDES A POWER CONVERTER AND INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING. FOR THE US MARKET, WE HAVE THE AMP LISTED AT $19.95 WITH FREE SHIPPING.

It is assumed that you have two audio out cables and perhaps a grounding wire coming out of your turntable. This would be considered standard.  No tools are required - everything just plugs in. We supply a set of audio patch cables, free of charge, which completes all necessary components to use your new pre-amp. Simply connect as in the diagram below and start enjoying the warm, rich sound of vinyl.

Should I ground my turntable to the new pre-amp?

No!  Absolutely not. If you do ground your turntable, ground it only to the receiver or power amp. Grounding to the pre-amp or to something else will cause a hum.  This type ground is a system ground, not an earth ground.

Can I use this pre-amp with my moving coil cartridge?

Yes, of course you can and it will work.  A Lyra Olympos cartridge will set you back about $11,000.00 these days and rather than shell out another $5,000.00 for a ZYX Artisan pre-amp, you can use this one with it. You can also install your cartridge using duct tape which will facilitate quick, radical changes in alignment and tracking force.
Just don't tell us that's what you are doing. Please!
