STUNNING PIQUE & FAUX TORTOISESHELL STERLING SILVER HAND MIRROR

 

 

A LOVELY RARE STERLING SILVER HAND MIRROR WITH SHELL AND INLAID SILVER

PIQUE WORK TO THE BACK.  THE HALLMARKS ARE CLEAR AND READ:

LION PASSANT - STERLING

ANCHOR - BIRMINGHAM ASSAY OFFICE

M - DATE LETTER 1911

ES.B - MAKER'S MARK

 

ON THE HANDLE AT THE FRONT IS THE RETAILERS NAME WHICH IS A LITTLE RUBBED

BUT I THINK IT IS H. GREENWELL,  NEW ST. BIRMINGHAM

THE SILVER IS IN PRETTY GOOD CONDITION WITH ONLY TWO MINOR BUMPS,

ONE TO THE END OF THE HANDLE AND ONE TO THE SIDE BUT THEY ARE NOT OBVIOUS.

THE BACK IS "FAUX" TORTOISESHELL AND THIS IS IN GOOD CONDITION.

 

UNFORTUNATELY, THE BEVELLED MIRROR IS NOT SO GOOD (COULD IT BE REPLACED?)

THERE ARE TWO AREAS OF TARNISH AT THE SIDES AND AND SOME MARKINGS ON THE GLASS.

NO CHIPS OR CRACKS.

A VERY BEAUTIFUL DISPLAY ITEM FOR YOUR DRESSING TABLE.
